Topic Trauma Informed Supervision (TIS) Within College Counseling Settings

Abstract:

This session offers a platform to present and discuss a framework for TIS within college counseling settings. This session addresses a significant need within the college counseling setting and supervision for clinicians working with clients presenting with trauma. Currently there is limited information for providing TIS within college counseling settings specifically. This session provides information of TIS, considerations for college counseling settings, and a framework for working with supervisees working with clients presenting with trauma. Needs and risks of clinicians working with survivors of trauma from a multicultural and social justice perspective, ACA ethics, and a case study are presented for discussion.

Objectives:

1.     Attendees will develop an understanding of Trauma-Informed Supervision including what it is and applying it into a college counseling setting.

2.     Attendees will discuss the need for Trauma-Informed Supervision in collegiate settings and considerations with supervisees working with students presenting with trauma.

3.     Attendees will share strategies and discuss a case example for supervisors to integrate Trauma-Informed Supervision techniques in their own supervision.
