Presenter: Lindsay A. Lundeen, PhD, NCC - University of Arkansas
Date: Tuesday, May 16th
Time: 1pm Eastern

Abstract:
Mental health professionals often hear about the importance of self-care through cautionary tales of burnout and compassion fatigue within the field of crisis counseling. In fact, self-care, burnout, secondary traumatic stress, and compassion fatigue receive considerable attention within suicide and crisis related trainings. However, minimal literature and continuing education highlights the nuances related to collegiate crisis clinician self-care practices. This presentation employs an individualistic approach to collegiate crisis clinician self-care through incorporating intersectionality when creating self-care plans for before, during, and after suicide risk assessments, crisis sessions, and hospitalizations.
Learning Objectives:
1. Attendees will be able to describe how intersectionality applies within the context of collegiate crisis clinician self-care. 2. Attendees will be able to list empirically supported self-care techniques to minimize potential for compassion fatigue, secondary traumatic stress, and burnout among collegiate crisis clinicians. 3. Attendees will create a self-care plan applying intersectionality for use before, during, and after crisis counseling sessions or client hospitalizations.
