Who We Are
The American College Counseling Association is made up of diverse mental health professionals from the fields of counseling, psychology, and social work. Our common theme is working within higher education settings.
ACCA membership includes professionals and student members who work largely in college counseling settings. There are a growing number of community college counseling professionals who comprise the second largest group within ACCA. Members hold primarily a master’s or doctoral degree with the largest group being master’s level professionals. Counselor educators and Supervisors are also part of ACCA membership.
Congratulations to our colleagues and members at North Carolina State in the Counseling Center on their recent Emmy Award in the Public Affairs category. Their video, #StopTheStigma, produced in conjunction with Durham-based StoryDriven, was recognized by the National Academy of TelevisionArts & Sciences in January. The video features students talking about suicide and began as an outreach effort, by two NCSU counseling center Social Workers. NCSU is led by former ACCA President Monica Z. Osburn.
2017 ACCA Annual Conference Registration
The theme for the 2017 American College Counseling Association conference is Embark, Explore, Engage. We will have a diverse selection of breakout session topics that explore ideas of being courageous, facing challenges, finding ways to cope, and reaching out to others. How do you set sail into uncertain waters, navigate the challenges presented, and come through the other side stronger, more resilient, and better equipped? How do we teach these skills to students? How do we cultivate these skills in ourselves professionally and in interns? What kind of team/skills do you need on your sailboat in order to make it through the storm? And how do we learn to be anchored in the midst of rough seas? Join us in Tampa February 16 - 19, 2017 and expect to be immersed in sessions related to:
