2018 American College Counseling Association Conference
Call for Programs

Submit your proposal by September 15, 2017

The Program Committee is seeking submissions that will contribute to the professional development of college counselors spanning all levels of experience and work settings. Our mission is to select a comprehensive set of programs that provides both breadth and depth of education and training for the variety of professionals who provide mental health services on college and university campuses.

SESSION FORMATS
Sessions for the conference can be in one of three formats:
  • Breakout sessions: These 90 minute sessions can take various forms, from a single presenter or panel presentation.
  • Pre-conference session: These half or full day sessions take a very in-depth look at a specific topic.
  • Poster session: Posters will be on display throughout the conference with a specified period for authors to answer questions about their study and findings.

SESSION TOPICS
The theme for the 2018 conference is Creative, Connected, Courageous! In keeping with our theme, we are interested in proposal topics that explore ideas of being courageous, facing challenges, finding ways to be creative in our work and reaching out and connecting with others. How do you find ways to be courageous in uncertain times? How do you keep your creative juices flowing in solving problems and in providing services that are innovative and interesting to students? How do we stay connected to one another as we do the rewarding and difficult work of college counseling? How do we teach these skills to students? How do we cultivate these skills in ourselves professionally and in interns? Preferred session topics for the 2018 conference:
  • Outreach and prevention: Aimed at creative ways of reaching out to students and engaging them in topics of mental health and wellness
  • Diversity/Inclusivity: Reaching out to underrepresented students to create and promote environments of inclusivity
  • Administration/Leadership: Building a connected team in your counseling centers and engaging institutional leadership in promoting campus wide mental health
  • Supervision/clinical training: Related to being courageous, facing challenges, and remaining steady
  • Counseling techniques:  How do we help our clients creatively and with courage learn to work with challenges and look at them as opportunities
  • Community college focus: Providing access for students and advocacy for counseling services
